Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

I'm linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for another Top Ten Tuesday.

It's time for planning another season of reading! I read most of the books on my Winter TBR list; I'm still listening to The Only Plane in the Sky, and I abandoned Women Who Run with the Wolves in the first chapter. Here are ten of the books I plan to read this spring!
1. All About Love by bell hooks
This book has been mentioned multiple times in my online communities the past month, so that always feels like a sign from the universe to pick something up. I have enjoyed hooks' other work that I've read, so I'm sure this will be great as well.
2. Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski
Long-time readers will know how much I adored Burnout, which Nagoski wrote with her sister, but I've also heard Nagoski speak on multiple podcasts about her first book, and I always love what she has to say. I'm looking forward to finally reading it!
3. Dumplin' by Julie Murphy
My partner mentioned really liking the movie of this and wanting to watch it with me. The book was already on my list, so I decided to bump it up for this season.
4. Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan
I can always use a good dose of middle grade! This one is a modern classic that has been on my list for a long time, so I'm going to prioritize it this time around.
5. Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green
I've read all of John Green's books and don't plan to make this new one an exception! I've enjoyed learning more about the history of tuberculosis from his videos as he's done a deep dive on this the past few years, and it'll be great to see all of it come together in his latest book.
6. Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings
After being disappointed by Belly of the Beast, I figured I should instead read the book that was already on my might-want-to-read list that the author kept citing.
7. Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
This has been on my list for a long time, and a friend recently mentioned it (possibly she was rereading it?), and it seemed like a good time to finally tackle it!
8. Money for Couples by Ramit Sethi
I've been a fan of Sethi's work since I Will Teach You to Be Rich, but I didn't know he had a new book and related podcast until it was mentioned on the What Should I Read Next? podcast not too long ago. I'm interested to see what he's put together in this one.
9. Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler
I finally read Parable of the Sower earlier this year and liked it enough to be interested in the sequel, but there was a 14-week hold on the audiobook so I'm still waiting!
10. The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser
Every since finishing the Penderwicks series, there's a hole in my heart for a good middle grade sibling series, so this jumped out to me from my might-want-to-read list. Let's hope I like it!

Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

I'm linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for another Top Ten Tuesday.

It's time for a quarterly reading check-in! I read all the books on my Winter TBR except Elatsoe, which I'm now reading. Here's what I plan to read this spring!
1. Bingo Love by Tee Franklin, Jenn St-Onge, and Joy San
After reading Snapdragon, my partner reminded me about this graphic novel with a similar love story that they'd recommended to me previously.
2. The Breakup Lists by Adib Khorram
I love everything Khorram writes, so I'm excited he has a new one coming out at the beginning of April!
3. Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
This has been on my TBR list forever, and I recently heard it recommended again, so I'm going to make it a priority to read it this spring.
4. Dead in the Garden by Dahlia Donovan
I've wanted to read this cozy mystery for ages but it wasn't at the library; I finally realized I'd saved up enough Amazon digital credits to get the Kindle version for free. Done!
5. Death Comes as the End by Agatha Christie
This is next in my quest to read Christie's complete works!
6. I Am Ace by Cody Daigle-Orians
I was a fan of Daigle-Orians' channel in the time that I was on TikTok, and I'm excited to read his book.
7. The Polyamory Paradox by Irene Morning
I wanted to read this one after hearing the author on the Multiamory podcast, but like Dead in the Garden it wasn't at the library, and I've now used my digital credits to get the Kindle version.
8. Setting Boundaries That Stick by Juliane Taylor Shore
I put this on my TBR list after hearing the author talk on several podcasts, and now my partner is reading it and encouraged me to actually put a library hold on it.
9. Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
This advice book has been on my TBR list forever, and I'm looking forward to finally getting to it.
10. When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön
As I'm anticipating some possible big changes in my life soon, it seems like a good time to read this book about making it through challenging times of life.

Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

I'm linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for another Top Ten Tuesday.

It's time to check in about our planned reading for the season. I read eight of the ten books on my winter TBR, so here are the two left over plus eight more.

1. Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
This is a carryover from winter.
2. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Of Rowell's many highly recommended books, the only one I've read is Eleanor & Park, which I didn't like as much as most people. But it's time for me to pick up another one of her books, and this is one I think I might enjoy.
3. Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
I definitely didn't love Gideon the Ninth as much as most of the bookish internet seems to, but it was fun and the audiobook was well done and I think the sequel could be enjoyable.
4. Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz
This has been recommended a number of times now and I do love a good mystery, so I want to check this one out.
5. The Mysterious Mr. Quin by Agatha Christie
Speaking of good mysteries, I'm still working my way through Agatha Christie's complete works.
6. Nabokov's Favorite Word Is Mauve by Ben Blatt
I love a good data dive, and one that involves my other great love (books) is even better.
7. The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwreck by Mackenzi Lee
This is the other carryover from winter.
8. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
A friend recommended this to me recently after I'd seen it on a bunch of lists. I have yet to tackle Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but this one is much shorter and should be a good introduction to Clarke's writing.
9. Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Shusterman is one of those authors I still haven't read despite many enthusiastic endorsements of multiple of his books, so I'm finally going to read one this spring.
10. Tranquility by Tuesday by Laura Vanderkam
I probably don't need another life/time management book, but I really like Vanderkam and this has been recommended by several people I trust, so I'm interested to check it out.

What do you plan to read this spring?

Looking back:
One year ago I was reading: The Ship We Built and Drinking the Rain
Five years ago I was reading: Radical and Pawn of Prophecy
Ten years ago I was reading: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and 168 Hours

Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

I'm linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for another Top Ten Tuesday.

It's time to talk about what we plan to read this quarter! I got through all but one of my winter TBR list, the last one of which (Drinking the Rain) I'm in the middle of now. Here's what I plan to read in the next few months! (Spoiler: It involves a lot of queer romance.)
1. All Joy and No Fun by Jennifer Senior
I am in a rough patch with my kids at the moment, so I need some validation right now for how incredibly hard parenting can be.

2. Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman
I'm still in a bit of a transition period right now, post-divorce and move but still waiting for my younger kid to be eligible to get vaccinated, so it feels like a good time to get some perspective on how I will choose to spend the time I have left in my life.
3. Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford
This is my local book club's pick for April, which I hadn't heard of before, so I'm interested to check it out.
4. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
Long-time blog readers know that I used to have an annual goal of reading something my sister recommended, until she stopped giving me recommendations. But she just texted me this rec the other day! It was already on my "might want to read" list, but now it's obviously gotten bumped to the top.
5. Heartstopper: Volume Two by Alice Oseman
I finally read the first volume of this graphic novel series, and now I can't believe I have to wait weeks for my hold to come in on the next one!
6. I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston
I can't believe McQuiston already has a new release after the absolute stunner of One Last Stop last year, but you bet I put a hold on it as soon as my library would allow! It's coming out in early May and I hope I'm one of the first in (virtual) line for it.
7. Kiss & Tell by Adib Khorram
This is another new release from a favorite author, this one coming out in just a week! I adore Khorram's writing and can't wait to see what he's done with this newest queer YA book.
8. Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee
This has been recommended several times on the Get Booked podcast, and since my brain is craving lighter, happier stuff right now (graphic novels, middle grade, romance), this queer YA fantasy novel seemed like a great selection.
9. Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie
I'm almost done with reading all the Miss Marple books! If my sources are correct, this is the last of the Miss Marple novels, and then I just have a couple of remaining short story collections to read.
10. Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee
Middle grade? Queer romance? 100% what I'm looking for right now.

What do you hope to read this spring?

Looking back:
One year ago I was reading: I Shall Be Near to You, Freddie Ramos Takes Off, and The Body Keeps the Score
Five years ago I was reading: The Brothers Karamazov, Gang Leader for a Day, and If on a winter's night a traveler
Ten years ago I was reading: Two-Part Invention

Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

I'm linking up with That Artsy Reader Girl for another Top Ten Tuesday.

I finished all the books on my winter TBR list, which included several that I really loved! For spring, there are TONS of new releases coming out that I'm excited about, and I'm hoping I can find time for all of them as I go back to work.
1. The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green
I haven't been listening to this podcast long but I do enjoy John Green's thoughts, and now that it's a book of essays that I'll get in audiobook format read by him, it'll basically be like binge-listening to the podcast!
2. Broken by Jenny Lawson
Lawson's other books have had me crying with laughter, so I was very excited to see she was coming out with a new one. I just have to be careful when and where I listen to this because with Let's Pretend This Never Happened I got weird looks bursting out laughing while on a walk!
3. The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers
I just recently listened to the first three books in the Wayfarers series, so I'm ready to continue the series when the next book comes out this spring.
4. Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli
I love Becky Albertalli so of course I'm going to read what she comes out with next!
5. On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reed
I saw this book was coming out soon, and it seemed like a good opportunity to dive deeper into the history before and after Juneteenth, especially as I have a goal to read about race in America this year.
6. One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston
Like almost everyone else, I loved Red, White & Royal Blue and am happy to join the hype for her next book!
7. A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie
Amid all the new releases, I am also continuing with my goal of reading the Miss Marple books in order, and this one is up next.
8. The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary
O'Leary is another author whose books I just picked up in the past year after hearing about them for a while, and I enjoyed them enough that I put a hold on her upcoming release.
9. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Unlike most of this list, this book isn't a 2021 publication, but it was published in the last five years and I've been wanting to get around to it for a while. I loved her writing in Daughter of Smoke & Bone and my issues with that book were specific to its unique plot, so I'm hoping this one lands for me.
10. Sure, I'll Be Your Black Friend by Ben Philippe
This one looks like it has a fun, conversational tone, and it's a different spin on reading about race in America; I've mostly focused on histories and modern anti-racist books, but this one is a memoir that also provides outsiders an inside look at Black culture.
